woman teaching

two sundays ago, i visited irving bible church which is literally a 1 minute drive from my house. it was much like austin stone, except they owned the building. after worship and announcements, i was utterly amazed when a woman stepped up to the podium with a bible, notes and a bottle of water and proceeded to teach the gospel. this is the very first time i have ever witnessed a woman preacher.

i’m looking for your thoughts. how do you interpret 1 timothy 2:11-12 – “a woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” is irving bible church breaking the law written in the bible… a book that is held in highest reverence with nothing false within? or are they onto something refreshing and enlightening?

i’d love to hear jackie’s response, as i’m sure she gets this question quite often. but for now, i’d like to hear yours.

whirly ball

on friday night, we went out for eric’s birthday to play some good ‘ole whirly ball. i’m thoroughly surprised this isn’t a more popular ’sport’. it is pretty freakin awesome. i was hesitant at first because i’m not a huge fan of bumper cars… but it’s amazing what adding lacrosse basketball can do for it! it’s in a super shady area of dallas… but i think that might have made it even better. they had a lot of hand sanitizer that i’m sure i used quite a bit. i felt dirty there.

here i am being incredibly awful at it. notice that when i try to make a goal… it goes completely over the target. lame.

this past weekend, my wonderful mother and sister came to visit me in dallas for a day! we chilled, went shopping at tj maxx and cooked dinner! i learned how to make yummy steamed fish (tilapia).

YUM.

oriana and i also tried our hand at molten lava cake! i bought 4 ramekins at walmart and oriana made the nasty concoction in the microwave. it looked like poo. but then it turned out decently well and i had fun plating it on my fun plates. hoorah!

i had the most delicious dinner with steph tonight. the last time i visited tei tei, I liked it already… but now this second time made me love it more.

we had the:

- marinated sea bass (again)
- “feed me” roll (again – but it’s different every day!)
- agedashi tofu

DELICIOUS! i LOVED my feed me roll this time. they gave me two types, 4 of each. Safe to say that the feed me roll will most likely be around $14-$15 each time. the first roll was salmon, with a slight mayo/cream taste topped off with a torch-cooked peppered/seasoned salmon on top. the second roll was torch-cooked white fish with a dash of fish eggs and very thinly sliced green onion (? not sure actually) for color – the inside was also fish, but i couldn’t tell what it was… i’m a genius, i know… a true foodie…

so delicious. the tofu was placed in a tempura like sauce and stayed crispy. and the sea bass… still good as ever. LOVE this place.

something about sundays always make me extremely lazy. that’s why they invented things like roombas so you can clean, but you don’t have to do anything but push a button that says ‘clean’. it’s like the staples ‘easy’ button… until the roomba gets full of dog hair and you have to clean the cleaner.

this was one of the first pictures i ever posted on my flickr. he looks exactly the same. =)

tonight, steph and i put some effort in putting some lessons into practice. steph’s mom was here for the weekend and taught steph a whole ton of good cooking tips.

our menu:

Black bean Eggplant with Pork
‘Clay Pot’ with Green Bean Vermicelli, Pork, Shrimp and Napa Cabbage
Steamed Sea Bass with Soy Sauce
Chinese Meatballs with Napa Cabbage
A Chai with Oyster Sauce
